Following an initial exploration well with encouraging results, Block CI-205 is primed for a second well.

On this block straddling the continental shelf of Côte d’Ivoire, Oranto Petroleum operates with a 90-percent equity interest, Petroci holding the balance of 10 percent. Block CI-205 spans nearly 2,000 km2 as part of the Tano oil and gas basin, 15 km from the Baobab oil field and contiguous to multiple other discoveries. A first well (Buffalo-1X) drilled on Block CI-205 in 2011 proved the presence of a non-commercial oil discovery. About 350 square kilometers of data from a seismic survey conducted in 2013 is being inverted while the geological model is being updated in preparation for further operations. A second exploration well is planned. Oranto acquired the block in 2001 and shot 1,300 km of 2D seismic before Lukoil joined the project to drill Buffalo 1-X.
In 2007, reinterpretation and reprocessing of seismic data for CI-205 were completed, revealing a potential oil and gas bearing structure. Further survey work was conducted in previously unexplored zones to decrease the geological risk of the first exploration well. Block CI-205 sits in water depths ranging from 1,900 to 3,500 meters to the south and west of multiple large oil and gas condensate discoveries, with recoverable reserves between 100 million and 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
